New Zealand set a high target of 216, and even though Indias one batter made a late fight, they were all out for 165 in 18. 4 overs.

Dube’s Explosive Knock

One of the most notable moments in Indias innings was Shivam Dubes aggressive batting display that saw him smash 65 runs off just 23 balls including 7 sixes and 3 fours, hitting his fifty on only 15 balls one of the fastest in T20Is for India. His knock gave India hope for the chase and kept the supporters entertained with ferocious hitting, but unfortunately, it was not enough as wickets kept on falling around him.

New Zealand’s Balanced Performance

On the bowling side of things, Mitchell Santner was the highlight as he came up with his best figures so far while finishing the game with great spell 3 for 26 and putting pressure on the Indian batsmen continously. Jacob Duffy too played his part by grabbing the wickets of the top two batsmen in the first over itself and thus really putting India under a lot of pressure from the very start of their innings.

Match Impact and Series Status

Result wise the victory shared New Zealand a morale boost after their three consecutive defeats. In addition, India had been particularly dominant in their last match in Guwahati where they recorded an eight, wicket victory over the Kiwis. With the series tally at 3, 1, the fifth and final T20I match will be played at Thiruvananthapuram on January 31, 2026, which will give India the opportunity to have the last say in the game and thereby close the series with a win.
